Luxembourg Luxembourg

Situated on the brink of two steep canyons, Luxembourg is among the most geographically dramatic capitals in Europe. The country's undulating landscapes extend into the city, where medieval walls and towers coexist with thriving international banks and office buildings. The city's most awe-inspiring sight is the Bock, the oldest part of the town fortress, a masterpiece of tunnels and storage rooms. From the entrance, you can navigate its spiral staircases and enjoy breathtaking views through the loopholes. The surrounding streets are the oldest in the city. St-Michael’s Church, with stones dating back to 987, stands nearby. The earliest section of the Grand Ducal Palace's facade is a splendid example of Spanish Renaissance style. When you've had enough of the bustling old city, head to the parks along the shaded River Pétrusse or, for a change of scenery, visit the Portuguese and Italian quarter in the Alzette ravine. In the evening, you can listen to guitars, bands, and choirs at Place d’Armes.
