Madurai India

The city of Madurai is part of the Tamil Nadu State, it is the administrative headquarters of the District of Madurai. It is the third largest city and the second municipal corporation in size of Tamil Nadu. Located on the banks of the mouth of the Vaigai River, it has been an important settlement for two millennia, and is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. The city presents a great cultural legacy shaped by a series of landmarks, such as the Meenakshi Amman Temple and the Tirumalai Nayak Palace. Although other attractive tourist is undoubtedly the festival Tirukalyanam (also called the Chittirai festival), held in April-May for 10 days, which attracts one million visitors annually.
