Amritsar, also known as Rāmdāspur and colloquially as Ambarsar, is a city in the northwestern part of India and serves as the administrative headquarters of the Amritsar district in the state of Punjab. Amritsar is home to the Central Khalsa Orphanage, which was once the residence of Udham Singh, a prominent figure in the Indian independence movement. Amritsar has been selected as one of the heritage cities under the HRIDAY - Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana scheme by the Government of India. MAIN TOURIST ATTRACTIONS Akal Takht.
