Moscow, one of the largest cities in the world, is the symbolic heart and soul of the country. Sightseeing begins at Red Square, dominated by St. Basil's Cathedral and the massive red walls of the Kremlin. We visit the Armory, with its impressive collection of Tsarist, Russian and foreign jewelry and armor. Then proceed to see Moscow University and the popular Arbat shopping district. Drive on wide boulevards and stroll through GUM, the largest Russian department store. The balance of the day is at leisure.
Today we travel 75 km north of Moscow, to a small town of Sergiev Posad, former Zagorsk – founded in the 14th century and renowned as a center of ancient Russian art and architecture. For centuries it served as a place of pilgrimage and the religious capital of Russia. Within the old walled city admire the fairy-tale golden and blue domes of the Holy Trinity St. Sergius Lavra, one of the most beautiful of all monasteries. After lunch at a popular restaurant, return to Moscow, the rest of the day at leisure.
Enjoy time at leisure, before we transfer you to the railway station for our four hours high speed Sapsan train ride to St. Petersburg. Upon arrival at the St. Petersburg train station, you will be transferred to your hotel. Optional: Russian Folklore evening.
There are not many cities in the world that can match the grace of St. Petersburg. When Peter the Great founded the city in 1703, he hired Europe’s best architects, craftsmen and artists to build and decorate it. Spread over 100 islands linked by over 600 bridges, it is often referred to as "Venice of the North”. The morning sightseeing tour will feature Palace Square, Senate Square with the monument to Russian Emperor Peter the Great, the founder of the city, St. Isaac’s Square with St. Isaac’s Cathedral, Smolny Cathedral, Cruiser Aurora, Field of Mars, and Nevsky Prospect. Visit to Peter and Paul Fortress, built on a small island in 1703. Optional: Evening Canal Cruise.
The morning sightseeing tour will feature the world-famous Hermitage which houses many art treasures from the Czarist era. The balance of a day is at leisure.
We continue to Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, situated on the southern coast of the Bay of Finland. This is an old town with typical narrow, medieval streets, towers, town walls, Gothic churches, merchant and manor houses from the 13th to 17th centuries.
Our morning sightseeing tour of Tallinn features Town Hall, the orthodox Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and Toompea Castle. We then travel to Riga, capital of Latvia.
This morning’s sightseeing tour features Riga Castle, housing the Pioneer Palace and the Museums of History, the magnificent Dome Cathedral, St. Jacobs Cathedral, St. Peter’s Church, the Parliament building, Liberty Monument and the district of Art Nouveau houses. Your afternoon is free.
In the morning, we travel to Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania.
St. Peter and Paul Church with over 2,000 statues and reliefs, Upper Town with Gediminas Tower and Vilnius Castle are the highlights of our morning sightseeing tour. The afternoon is free.
We bid farewell to Lithuania and cross into Poland. At day’s end, we reach Warsaw, the capital.
Your sightseeing tour includes a drive along the famous Royal Route from magnificent Castle Square to Lazienki Park and Palace. Pass by the Palace of Science and Culture, the Saxon gardens, the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, monument to the Heroes of the Warsaw Ghetto and the Barbican. Continue with a walking tour of Old Town, Market Square and St. John’s Cathedral. Use the balance of the day for shopping or attend an optional late afternoon Chopin concert.
After breakfast, you’re transferred to the airport for your home-bound flight.
