Leave tonight on an overnight jet flight for Zagreb (flight not included).
We shall meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. You have the rest of the day at leisure to get acquainted with Zagreb. For tonight, we have planned a welcome dinner.
This morning, we show you our Zagreb. Your tour includes the historic Upper Town, St. Mark’s and St. Catherine’s Churches, the Cathedral, the Parliament building and the Government Palace. You have another afternoon free to relax or go sightseeing.
It’s an all-day trip as we drive through the rolling Croatian countryside, en route to Sarajevo, which we reach around dinner time.
Sarajevo has come under the influence of many cultures and civilizations. You will see examples of this on our tour of the city, visiting the colorful Turkish bazaar, ‘Bas Carsija’ and the Husref Bey Mosque. We take you to the Olympic Stadium and the War Tunnel Museum. As we continue along mountain roads and along the spectacular Neretva River gorge to Dubrovnik, we stop for a brief tour in Mostar to see the remains of the Turkish quarter and the reconstruction of the 16th century single arch stone bridge.
There’s so much to see in ‘Old Dubrovnik,’ as we take you to the highlights: the Rector’s Palace, the Bell Tower clock, Orlando’s Column, the Sponza Palace, the Dominican Monastery and the Franciscan Monastery with its pharmacy, one of the oldest in the world. The rest of the day is at leisure to re-visit a favorite site or bask in the warm Dalmatian sun on Dubrovnik’s sunny beaches.
After breakfast, we drive across the border into Montenegro. Our first stop is Kotor, site of the picturesque bay, one of the longest, deepest fjord in southern Europe. Enjoy a boat ride to Our Lady of the Rocks, one of two islets off the coast of Perast. The Roman Catholic Church is the largest building on the islet, with museum attached to it. Upon return to the coast, we will stop in Perast, an old charming coastal town.
The road goes north from Dubrovnik to Split, along the breezy, beautiful Adriatic coast, past old fishing villages and modern resorts. A UNESCO World Cultural Heritage city, Split is renowned for its inner city, built around the Roman Emperor Diocletian’s Palace. Your sightseeing tour includes this highlight and other remnants of Split’s Roman heritage, Jupiter’s Temple, the Peristyle, the Cathedral, as well as Renaissance and Gothic monuments.
We travel farther along the coast to Trogir, a popular gathering place for artists from around the world, who come here to study and paint. Our destination today is the national park housing the spectacular Plitvice Lakes.
We give you a full day in this beautiful location, another UNESCO World Heritage site. This natural wonder consists of 16 terraced lakes in a setting of thickly wooded forests and lush vegetation. In the morning, take a walking tour around several of the lower lakes. The balance of the day is yours to enjoy this unique spot with its one-of-a-kind, breathtaking scenery.
We return to the coast and the beautiful bay of Kvarner with its popular resort, Opatija. Then we head to Postojna, home of one of the largest caves in Europe. Here we tour the subterranean world by miniature electric train. Afterwards, our journey continues to Bled, beautifully set in the Julian Alps.
Our morning sightseeing tour features the town of Bled with its lakeshore and includes a visit to Bled Castle, perched on a cliff high above the lake. In the afternoon, we travel to Ljubljana. Our tour of Ljubljana begins with a visit to the open-air market, City Hall, Robba's Fountain, the Three Bridges and the Parliament.
We leave Bled this morning, bound for the mesmerizing charms of romantic, intriguing Venice, 'Queen of the Adriatic.' On the way we stop in Trieste, Italy for orientation tour and visit to Miramare Castle.
There is no other city quite like Venice! It reigns supreme among the world’s favorite destinations. This morning, we show you the major highlights: the Golden Basilica of San Marco, the Bridge of Sighs, St. Mark’s Square. Your walking tour ends with a visit to a glass-blowing factory where you can see demonstrations of traditional Venetian glass-blowing. The balance of the day is at leisure.
